Post up your latest new or used tool purchases

Snagged these off eBay. Around $100-$110 each, free shipping, NIB. Dedicated 2”/3” roloc sander (15,000 RPM high range), 3” orbital sander and 3” low speed buffer/polisher. I bought some used Honda Pilot wheels for my wife’s Element and I am going to remove the clear coat and polish them.

I have several 90 die grinders, but I get tired of swapping between burrs, wire wheels and backing pads. Im excited to just grab the other tool now.
Nice. I like those

Do you really need the $$$ high flow swivels for die grinders?
I've been using the much cheaper regular flow ones. I thought the high flow was for bigger loads, like impacts.

Also, Astro Pneumatic is awesome. I've got a ton of their stuff.

Picked up my dividing head turn table today. Fawk sakes this thing is crazy heavy. There is absolutely no freaking way I could pick this thing up and set it on my mill table without a couple other people’s help or an overhead hoist. No biggie, I got it on a caster wheel cart for storage and have an electric winch I’m planning on installing an overhead track for. I’m afraid this thing is too heavy for a single unistrut track.

It smashed two 2x2 boards I had on the ground sliding it down off the ass end of my golf cart club carry area. So, about 8-10” slide down.

I got two more hole pattern disc with it also.

I could not find a mfg dog tag on it but it’s old

looks pretty 'generic '70s asian'
maybe taiwan, maybe japan
The external 10deg indexing thing is weird tho.

Usually they do some sort of removable indexing plate on the back side if they do one at all instead of just letting the plates on the worm handle do it.

direct indexing is a pretty common feature on dividing heads, it makes a ton of sense for semi-production work
and most rotary tables were able to be ordered with a dividing plate set, a long time ago

dunno what's weird about it

They are $11.20 from JB Tools, is that expensive? I have blown out enough Milton’s that I want to try something else. The Milton’s are more expensive at around $15.

I don’t care about the extra airflow honestly. I run Milton 1809 plugs and they have 3/8” openings. The ports in the 3SB40 are larger than that, can’t find a measurement online.

$45 Vevor notcher, I typically notch with an abrasive chop saw but I'm kinda tired of the noise and mess. Made a couple test cuts, definitely see areas to be improved already.

$625 bought me a tig welder and a mig welder yesterday. Funny enough, the guy I got the tig from asked me if I knew a friend of his. He’s my friend too and that’s who’s house I was going to to buy the mig. Bought the tig for a friend to pick up this weekend. Keeping the mig. Took everything off the mig to shed any weight while I sketch-ily unloaded it from the bed of my truck at home
I was 4 years old when the mig was built according to the serial number.

Do woodwork tools count?

Been looking for a big planer for my sawmill lumber. Really want a 24" or bigger, but when you find a 20" at the scrap yard, you're not gonna not buy it.

Inspecting it in the yard, I was expecting to find something broken in the feed gearbox, but once I got it home and took a closer look, I can't find anything wrong with it, other than a bit of surface rust from sitting out in the yard for a few days. Wont take much to polish the tables back.

As far as I can tell, it's identical to the current 20" model sold by Grizzly for $3k so it'll be easy to to get parts. I'll see how it works with the standard knives for now and if I use it enough, looks like a helical head is about $1k.

720 lbs, cost me $325 :smokin:

Very cool, hopefully nothing is wrong with the feed roller and drive system on it.

But yeah, I think one mfg makes this planned in Taiwan and sold to several brand equipment companies. Mine ,which is identical, is a Fox brand. I paid $500 for mine from a buddy of mine. He bought it from GovDeals. He used it on a pile of lumber then was done with it. I paid him what he bought it for. It came with a bunch of new and resharpened blade sets.

Grizzly out of Springfield MO should be able to help with parts for it tho if needed or ereplacement.

Got a couple of new dial indicator bases this week. I set the things 100x a day so I like them easy to use. Have been running the flexy cable style for a while but they aren't particularly rigid and once the cable stretches they're basically useless.
Trying the one touch lock style this time and very happy so far. You can put it anywhere you like, but more importantly you can choose whatever attack angle you like easily. Just hold the indicator where you want it and tighten the knob.

I got a couple of those end of last year, one medium size and one small size. I like them over the flex arm cable one a lot more also. I had that one since the 90’s for rebuilding engines when I was a tech.

Got a couple of these stubby ratchet screw drivers for free as a giveaway. A supply company usually has things like this on their checkout countertop for their customers. I picked one up last week and one this week. They’re made in the USA and great quality too. :smokin:

Noga or knock off? Nogas are really nice.

I just saw a video for those the other day. That was the first I had heard of them. The guy turned it on in front of him and my first thought was that without a shield that was pretty pointless because it blinded you. Then he stuck it in a wheelwell like you did...

I'll be curious what you think about it after some time. I'm wondering how much of a deal it will be that it is unshielded or if you can generally find something to put it behind.

It's kinda neat. The lights only emit out the front so you could aim it away from you and not get blinded. It's sets of 3 LEDs along the rod so you can make them turn on and off like you see in their videos (where it scrolls from end to end). Plus a couple different brightness settings. Thus far I'm digging it but I've only used it a couple days now. Can confirm, it's brighter and the battery lasts longer than the led lightbar from Harbor Freight. I'll have to post an update in a month or two of how it's holding up.

I bought the same light. Went from in stock to a 3 month wait. Hope it going to be worth it.

Does it count if it's tool-adjacent and you didn't actually purchase it?
Customer was very happy I got his shaft done before the weekend and left me a nice tip...

Dunno what the stuff costs over there but that's a couple of grand on my side of the pond. Needless to say i'll never have to buy it again.
