Post up your latest new or used tool purchases

Picked this up recently for $300. Kept the Swag brake and sold the press for $100 bcz I already had one and my garage is already cramped without having two 20-ton presses.

We showing off great deals on parts washers? Bought this EnviroQuip A40 for $650 a few years ago. I've seen some go for even cheaper. It ****ing rocks for engine blocks, transmission housings, transfer cases, knuckles, etc. Not so great for tiny stuff. It absolutely sucks if your detergent mix is off or the temps aren't right, because it will pump foam out until the low water level switch trips. Then you have a god damn mess in the shop.

I collected a few floor jacks on deals I couldn’t pass up. Like $25 each because they bleed off.

The walker Lincoln in the back I bought new 30 plus years ago. I rebuilt it last year.

The other two, Lincoln and snappy, are walker jacks also.

I bought a sears 1-1/2 ton green jack new in the 80’s and wore it out from use and abuse. The two in the photo I bought off of FBMP cheap. These jacks were made in Japan.

I got rebuild kits for all four of those jacks and when I get time, I’ll rebuild them and sell off a couple of them.

I had to buy two caster wheels for the snappy as someone must’ve drug it down a rough street for a bunch of miles and beat the **** out of them. All swivel ball bearings were gone and the wheels were ground down to a thin metric size.

I replaced my center row Walmart led light fixtures with these 6 bulb led fixtures I bought off of FBMP earlier this year. I bought six of them for $25 each. Already converted to led bulbs.

Got some drawer dividers off of eBay linked to Zoro for my Lyon boxes I bought at auction.

No wonder they charge so much for them, they shipped 25 count of 2”x3” dividers in big cardboard boxes. I’d say ok if I just ordered one count of 25. But I ordered four counts of 25. You guessed it, they shipped them in four separate big boxes nicely put into one big box. Uuuuugh.

Bought some not so cheap ER-32 collets and R8 - ER-32 collet holder (saw too many videos of very crappy quality ER-32 collets from out of round to extremely bad relief cuts on the sides of the collets to make me avoid all that nonsense)

IMG_2382.jpeg

I also ordered a square & Hex ER-32 collet holders that not shown up yet.

Next in time, I’ll buy some Hardings 5C collets for my indexer.

I did also buy a very nice Hsrdings indexer tail stock as I was missing that for my indexer

I use Zoro often and they do dumb **** like this occasionally. I get creeped out by the personalized sales flyers and catalogs that primarily contain things I am looking for, but was only thinking about and not searching for. Normally their prices are 10-20% higher than competitors, so the coupon codes generally are just a wash and you don’t really save anything.

Auction day.
Picked up another Kennedy 526 box with a riser.

I always grab these when they are going cheap enough to flip. Usually it's for the "free" tools in them, but this one didn't have much. I actually want this to replace my 520, which will sell for more than I paid for this stack.

I already had a 526 in the Craftsman Flavor on top of the same riser. The 520 in the middle is getting replaced and the 52611 at the end is probably the nicest one...just need to find a replacement drawer for it.

Some of the goodies inside. Not worth a whole lot, but a few things I'll be happy to throw in my collection. Previous guy did something with sewing machines so there area lot of random industrial sewing parts mixed in.

Consolidated the other good stuff to one drawer. 3 full sets of numbered drills plus one fractional set. A bunch of nice old vintage pliers and some tap handles that I already have a dozen off.

Pro tip - these blue metal Akro Mills parts drawer cabinets will fetch $30-50 on ebay. I can usually grab them for $10-15 at auctions or sales. Every now and then you'll find one at a yard sale or flea market for $5 or less. :smokin:

I got a bunch of different ones of those and other brands back in the day new. I see them listed on FBMP for crazy money. I guess they stopped making them a while ago. Who knew.

Oh, and I had one of these in the same blue when I was a kid. I think it’s a guy and a dog in it and had a boat on a trailer behind it originally. Crazy how seeing something brings back oooold memories

I don't know when they stopped making the metal frame ones, but the ones I have that I bought the 90's are all plastic and ****.

Everything that Akro sells now is plastic too.

Heh...I didn't even notice that in there.

We had a semi-local hobby shop that had a bunch of them going back for years. So I picked up many of them in the 70s that stretched quite a way back.
My grand parents bought a hobby shop after he retired from the post office. Later they renamed it Checkered Flag Hobby shop. They had a couple of those huge multi track slot car tracks in their store. My grandpa was into trains and had a bunch of those on display for sale, the old steam locos made out of brass were cool.

The son (Tommy) is still running a hobby shop: About Gilbert's Hobby Shop | Gettysburg, PA, 17325 | (717) 337-1992

His father (****ie) started it back in the 1950s (I think?). You could find ads in the back of Model Railroader magazine. Unfortunately, when his father looked to retire, his wife (not Tommy's mother) convinced him he should get as much as he could out of it and priced it out of Tommy's reach. Some doctor bought it and ran it into the ground in a couple years. So Tommy started a new shop.

Unfortunately, my one uncle who bought the store from my grandfather sold it to one of his employees when he wanted to retire. It looks like it is permanently closed now. Lots of old memories from back in the 60’s n 70’s.

I bought one of those fancy lathe chuck keys posted up earlier in this thread. Same folks make this one as the ones with brass lock down collars on them but far less $$$. This one was around $26 whereas the brass ones are $75 plus range. But the one I bought fits my one chuck perfectly. It’s only offered in 7/16” and the more expensive ones are other sizes.

I’m gonna reverse engineer it to make ones for the other chucks I have which are different sizes. I think it’ll be an interesting project. It is a very nice chuck key though.

goddamn I hate engineers

I've got a couple that are 5/16 and a couple that are 5/8"
1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 should be the only female square drives out there on anything
My big 4 jaw is 5/16, go figure. I might buy another 7/16 one and mill it down to 5/16

I got one of those super cheap mills, the inserts had almost zero relief angle, left a pretty terrible surface finish.

I have a smaller version that uses 4 of the same style inserts and I could never get a decent finish from it.

And then I got a couple of these ~2" ones that used the round button inserts from Aliexpress for like $15 apiece and they've been awesome. And you can find the inserts on ebay for under $1 apiece if you buy a couple packs at a time.

As a bonus, you can also find cheap lathe tool holders that use the same inserts.

Well ain’t you fellas a couple Debbie downers :flipoff2: It’s ok, I’ll fawk stuff up with it to see what it does.

My mill vice is 9/16 square. I couldn't find a replacement handle anywhere And using a 9/16 wrench was getting old. I finally found a sweet cnc milled one on Etsy. Good price too.
