The making of three different shops

While I was working on the leveling feet, my DRO readout mounting arm which was just laying on top of the mill base, fell off and onto the top of my skull. It hurt for couple minutes then the blood ran down my head.

Did that the other week - stood up into a shelf bracket. Was really thinking I was going to need stitches for all the blood. Compression for a few minutes staunched the bleeding, though.
 
Still in progress but had things pop up in between.

I’ll post up some work I’ve done in my garage wood shop and things I’ve done in my basement machine shop after while.

Was going to try and swap out my Bridgeport mill in my basement with a new to me one I bought this weekend but I don’t think that’s going to happen yet. Maybe later we’ll see.

I have to swap around some drill presses first.

I finished modifying my machine mover dolly system for my mill. I built it for my lathe after my mill was in my basement shop. I moved my mill with pipes but this system will be smoother and safer.

Those digital levels are not very accurate. I set my mill up with a Milwaukee one. Then I borrowed the precision machinist level from work. It was almost off the scale......
 
Oops… pallet fork rack touched my outside light. Believe it or not, it still freaking works lol

The balance point is about where the column face is so in a perfect world you'd spin the turret around so that more weight is on the stable wheels and/or sticking the single wheel in the back and having the double up front.
 
Currently working on making my Bridgeport mill leveling feet cross braces. I’m making them out of 3” square tubing 1/4” wall thickness.

Got some beefy HD rubber adjustable feet for it. Buddy has some 5/8” thread all I’ll use to secure these to the mill base.

Kicking around whether or not I wanna weld end caps on the square tubing. Just a finishing touch I think but not really that important as it’s not something I’m selling and or critical.

This will raise my mill 5” plus when done.

Those feet are about half the price I paid for my Bridgeport!
 
Took the table off to clean the under side ways from hauling it home in a fawkin rain storm.

Table ways look in great condition as well as the x axis screw, no wear issues in the mid section that are noticeable 😎

good am, did you ever get the french cleats set up?
Nope, did get my walls done though as that turned into a huge job. Back wall of my garage was pushed out over two inches of bow in the center between my man door and end wall. No idea why other than may be I had plywood and that leaning against it for 20 years did it?!? Fawk who knows.

I replaced the one old oem nasty window with a new unused pella top end windows I bought 8 years ago off a guy on CL. Still in the wrapping.

So, one thing I uncovered checking things out under the table and cleaning stuff up is, I found one of the black lube hoses not where it’s supposed to be at

I found it coiled up back into itself

It’s supposed to be located into a hole on the backside of the x axis threaded screw boss up above the hole you see in the flat area between the two mounting bolts.

The thing is tho, the threaded screw shaft had lube on it and it wasn’t dry. My thought is that hauling it on my trailer with the table facing forward from Nashville TN to south of St. Louis, the wind and freakin rain storm I drove through, caused it to pop out of the hole. It barely reaches the hole but does go inside of it. I’m going to replace that line with a new one though
 
I rebuilt my mill oil pump assy. It was in really bad shape and took a bunch of brass wire brush and acetone to clean things up. Someone cracked the oil tank with a fork lift is my thought, but luckily that’s all that got damaged. Should be good to go now. 😎

HA, I never read the sticker on the side of the drill press before. I applied to work there as a service rep back in 2017. They wanted me but I didn’t like their package at all. They wanted me to use my own truck loaded with my tools and their parts to job locations in different states. I was like nope, I wouldn’t use my own vehicle doing that locally much less to different states.

I programmed and operated one of their waterjet tables for a couple years before I left that job to work at another place programming three laser flat bed steel cutting machines and a laser tubing cutter and learning to use autodesk. I did that job for a couple years until I got stir crazy sitting at a desk all day long everyday. I do that now but I get to get out and travel for my job too which I love. I’m in Nashville tonight and part of the morning tomorrow m, then moving onward.
 
Got the new oil line installed to the Y screw. It was missing the hose bushing so now the lube line will stay in the hole. I installed an additional line clamp to keep the line away from the table.

Had an issue with the lube pump, had to disassemble it again and unstick a check ball one way valve. It works now and now I’m working on replacing a faulty switch on my servo power feed unit. I have a couple used ones but this one is new. Well, never used I bought it from an auction. Hopefully this switch is all that’s wrong with it.

A bit of an update

Got the servo fixered. Replaced the power switch as it is messing up internally. Inspected everything else and everything looked in order and ok. Operated it with the cover off and found no issues. Installed it back on my mill and it runs out both directions fine now. I’m not sure what to think about it really as while the power switch was fawked up, no way it could’ve had any influence on why it had direction issues. Maybe something binging up from original assembly. It wasn’t ran before because it still had oem tape covering the needle bearing in the housing for the Y shaft.

Do you have a source for those feet? Or pick them up at an auction or something?

Anywhere I've found them, they've been crazy expensive.
I bought them at one of those overstock auctions years ago. I’m not sure that one is still around anymore. I bought that new in box servo power feed there too for around $50. I didn’t realize back then how much they sell for new. Over $1,000.00.

Search eBay for them I guess.
 
I've been keeping my eye out. The bigger ones get expensive fast, but I can probably make do with smaller ones. It looks like a 3.5" diameter one will support half a ton and cost about $36. Even a 5" dia one supports a ton and a half and is $60. For a one ton mill, even the 3.5" is overkill.
 
Been searching for grey paint to repaint my old Bridgeport mill stand with that matches kinda close. I think I found a rattle can that may workout. I’m only painting the base as it needs paint and will improve it’s first impression appearance much better than now.
