Dust Buggy

I bought both sets of jam nut wrenches from MotoBilt for the same purpose/trail bag.

As with most things though, since I have them, I've never needed them.
I haven’t needed mine on the trail, but I do use them when replacing heims.
Now that I wrote that…I’ll need them next trip!

I like the wrench you ordered.
I ordered a set of the RuffStuff ones with the idea that they are also compact enough for trail duty

I looked at those and have some good 3/8" and 1/2" crows foots, but I'm not sure they are up for the task.
RuffStuff should have made them out of thicker plate and an alloy and 3/4" drive.

Have you seen these?
He has torture tested them I'd be curious what you neanderthals think?

"made with ballistics grade metal"

Ok, so it's tools for 'operator' type bros. Pass.

I have to say that this picture is both really cool and really creepy all at the same time. :flipoff2:

Snow run last weekend near Shaver Lake area. Maybe 12”-18” of snow.
It was a Sunday stroll, saw some deer and squirrels while we were out for a couple hours. Tried to take it easy so we didn’t get covered in mud and snow and end up wet and cold.
With the heavier spring rate, it still was a nice smooth ride with 20lbs of air. Only one spot on an incline did we have to back up and get another run with speed. Snow must have been thicker or there was ice under the snow, didn’t hit the dirt.
Looking forward to this summer when it dries up and the trails open.

Bald Mountain Snow Run April 2025
Felt like a rookie, buried to the axles with full throttle and too much air and winched out. Remote winch controller was dead? So used the corded version, glad I planned for that to happen, not glad that it did happen. Aired down and switched to low low range and crawled our way on top of the snow up to the look out.

I don't think I have ever seen one of those remote winch controllers actually work ! Cool to see it on the trail!

My wireless remotes work well, but they do die every 3-5yrs. I keep a spare battery in the console.

Strap job to the body makes me cringe...

But the wheeling looks amazing :smokin:

A tree ran in front of us and we hit the passenger tire right going about 8mph at the beginning of the trail and we all said that hurt but everyone was good so we keep going.
Once at the lake I did a walk around to see if anything was leaking and noticed the ball joint was falling out. Jacked up the axle to unload the joint and pulled it out with fingers.
The lower ball joint and steering held the load and the upper ball joint pivoted inward until the steering arm rested against the knuckle. It was a miracle it held together the whole trail as I was making good time.
I hammered the joint back in and wrapped a roll of Tesa wire harness tape around it to hold it in and we wheeled out slow with no problems.
Time for some ball joint eliminators.

You mean chassis vs the axle?
Ive done both and the body roll is sketchy making a quick turn at speed. The preload on the suspension makes it more stable. I could do both axle and chassis. I’ll try that next time.

did you set the ball joint camber bushing properly?

if you donf seat the bushing, when torqueing it you will pull the ball joint up and out like that.

I hammered down the bushing onto the ball joint and then tightened it the first go around. The impact was enough to stretch the knuckle pocket and allow the bushing to crush and rotate in the pocket. The paint was cracked were it stretched. Not stretched enough that a weld in BJE would have problems.

On a vehicle with high body roll I add one strap to the rockers on each side.
I highly recommend strapping around the axles as a main point.

nOOB/obvious question:
Is an 8MPH 'crash' considered violent?

Your axles are 1tons, correct?

Defective/weak balljoint?

Those upper balljoints are known to be ****ty. That's why every serious buggy enthusiast replaces it with an eliminator kit.

Also, 8 mph into a non moving object can be pretty rough.

I did a 5sec surch on balljoint eliminator.

nOOB questions:
Are they adjustable or only stationary?
Meaning; no more adjusting cam or castor?🤷‍♂️
