Sore **** Deals

Those are decent boxes. You'd spend a lot more than $1500 for a decent used box of that size around here.

I picked up the series 2 version of the 72" when they were on clearance when the 3's were coming out. I think I got it for a little under a grand. I ordered a top box at the same time and apparently they oversold those and mine got canceled.....which is fine because I really wasn't sure if I wanted it or the flat bench space.

I like the series 2 drawer layout better and that's why I jumped on that before they were completely gone. They made a big hype about the series 3s, but if you look at all the sizes, they all ended up with fewer drawers. The 2 had 18 drawers and the 3 has 14. Same overall volume, just fewer, but taller drawers. I tend to like more, shallow drawers. The did the same with the 26" set too - bottom and top each have 1 less drawer. I also picked up another one of those when they were clearanced. They had lots of shallow drawers and make great tooling storage.....closest thing that was out there to something like a Kennedy for about 1/4 the price.

I'd still buy the series 3 72" if I needed something today. You really can't get more box for the money anywhere else. If you don't need it right now, hold out until they do another 10 or 15% off any item coupon.

I snagged a series 3 56" last year. Was about $900 delivered. Discount code pretty much covered the shipping:grinpimp: The layout isnt ideal, but I cant really bitch about it either.

Cabinets for those boxes are $280. Been eyeballing those again.

a 56" with 2 cabinets would come in a bit cheaper than a 72" box. And still have a good amount of storage

I bought a series 3 cabinet and hutch with a side cabinet earlier this year. I like it so far. I don't care fore the charging drawer or the drawer that has the drill/impact wrench holders. I got everything on sale. I really wanted the ICON chest but for the price difference couldn't really justify it.

I have the Series 2 42" I told myeslf I'd just buy another one when I want more space. (I want more toolbox space now, but don't have the garage space for another box).

This is true around here (SF Bay Area). You'd think there were decent deals on FBMP, but everyone wants an arm and a leg for a decent box, or reasonable pricing for beat up craftsman **** with missing sliders.

Look at the drawer configurations. The 56 plus side cabinet is the same configuration as the 72.
I've always liked the side cabinet us general budget hack:

$279 ($229 for ITC currently) side cab plus $899 56 = $1179 total

$1799 for the 72"

i did a gen 1 42 with side cabinet instead of the 56, because i didn't want that deep impact drawer that consumes about 50% of the increase in storage volume you pay the premium for on the 56.

they're $229 with inside track club til the end of the month you could buy the $29 membership and still save $20.

they even give away that configuration hack ( personally, i'd skip the upper):

And even less if you also get the 56 on sale too - although you likely will have to wait until each one is on sale individually.
yeah, I don't think they put more than 1 on sale at a time anymore.

And to be fair the 72 seems to go on sale frequently ( was $1399 in june) so that closes the gap a bit. (but by the same token, the 56 was 788 in april and $599 at christmas)

back when i bought mine, it was a black friday sale for the 42 roller cabinet and I ordered the side cabinet at that time at regular price (which still came in combined lower that the BF sale on the 56);

When my side cabinet arrived, there was a newly issued coupon for 15% off all storage and the manager just gave me the money back when i brought it up instead of making me return and re-order.

Yea, the 56 with the two sides would be decent. Probably go that route.

Got a 20% coupon, but I'm going to miss out on it because my truck is waiting for outer tie rods. The coupon expires tomorrow. Not really worried. But for price, can't really beat it. I'll go that route. FIL is part of the insider thing too, maybe he can get a coupon or something too.

Not 100% sure on your store but you can most likely pay for it and pick it up in a week or two.

Not in a major rush. I've got some other ends I need to tie up first. I really should knock out the mezzanine in the shop.

Have this 20% off coupon, and I almost feeling like I'm pressured into needing to buy something. It'll wait.

Even with coupons 20% is better than any of the itemized ones or even holiday deals. As long as you have somewhere to stick it 100 bucks savings is a hundred bucks for other tools.

I picked up the 27" US General for a tool stand during one of the tool box specific sales last year.

Nice box, but I HATE the drawer latch. Sticking your fingers into the slots and pushing sideways to unlatch the drawer as you pull is not a natural/intuitive movement.

My big box is a 15+ year old, Masterforce (Made by Montezuma I think) from Mendards, it's as good of a box as my little US General, and has far superior drawer pulls/latches.

I sound like a broken record fanboying the Masterforce latches, but I'll be outfitting the new shop with Masterforce from Menards, and I'll have to drive 3 hours to Joplin to get them, still worth it.

I have been eyeballing one of these big ass husky boxes for quite a while. I have outgrown my OG US general 44" box with end cabinet and they dont make anything for them, so the option of expansion is gone. seems like it would be very hard to beat the space per dollar for a home garage

I'm used to it now, but I feel the same way about the US general latches.

Six inch mitutoyo caliper for $40. I see them online for $125 and up. I found it in Vegas at a warehouse liquidator. I may go back to get one or two more for gifts.

Also grabbed a 6gallon bladder of Castrol full synth for the Toyotas. $45 a pop.

Have you watched the comparison videos to determine if it is counterfeit? Differences are very subtle.
I'm glad you spoke up before I bought more, thanks. The lockdown screw isn't retained and the case doesn't have "made in Japan" molded into it.

Machinist site says they're an ok deal at $40....these can be a set for woodwork and I'll wait for a Zoro coupon to get a real set down the road.

Edit: I checked the receipt and found it was a $35 piece. So I paid more than the same thing from HF but it's far prettier

LOL

Might make it a teaching toy for the boy..... I'll give it a few uses/tests against my other caliper here and there.

If you contact Mitutoyo chances are they will send you a real 1 . I bought a counterfeit 12" digital caliper and they replaced it with a real one once i sent the counterfeit to them. They were glad to get it as I guess somehow they can trace back to who manufactured it.
This was done in 2020

I have 4 or 5 legit Mitutoyos and I'm not super impressed with them. They're all older ones that I got bought used or got in tool lots I bought so I can't vouch for their history. But I have a set of cheap chinese imports that I swear hold just as tight tolerances as any of the legit ones.
