So my HEMTT got a bad vibe. Apon investigation, I found a bad u-joint. The u-joint was in a double carden. When I pulled the joint, I knocked some of the needle bearings out of the ball. There’s nothing wrong with the ball and there is no locally available carden to be had anyways. If I could just arrange the needles in the ball in some grease, I could get the driveshaft back together today with new u-joints.

I have dumped some needles out of U-joints and successfully put them back, but this is too small to get my finger in. Before it’s suggested, it’s too small for my D*ck also. Does anybody got some trick for doing this?

Stick a magnet to a pick. As long as the needles are magnetic, should be able to hold them. Put some grease inside before you put the needles in.

id actually use a pair of tweezers for this but it still doesnt look fun either way.

Those things are a PITA to get back into place. A lil grease and a pick works but it still sucks and takes forever. I'd slap a new bearing in it and party on.

DONT FORGET THE SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used the tweezers for the win.

Mine didn’t have a spring in it. I know my Bronco DS had a spring. This was a custom “Tom Woods” driveshaft. It uses 1350 U-joints. Do the 1350 size carden shave springs? I have a high opinion of Tom Woods, but I sware the U-joint was damaged by the assembler on this shaft.

In any case, it’s all back together.

There should be a spring either in that bearing or in the stub on the driveline.

They use the same spring and bearing from the lil 1310 jeep stuff through the 1410 double cardans. There is nothing special or custom about it.

Definitely no spring. What does the spring do? I just saw that Tom Woods warranties there U-joints. I’m going to call them Monday. I’ll see what they have to say about the spring.
