Post up your latest new or used tool purchases

I will order a couple of those helping hands. Been needing something like that for years.

Todays Ebay score. After moving a couple machines with my amazon skates, I swore I would never use them again without improvements. Found a set of Hillmans for $450 and hit the easy button.

Nice, i think I saw that listing but I'm holding out for a 40t kit.

There's one 40t new kit on there for $1776, which is a good bit less than from hilman directly.

I scored some Hillman rollers for $50 for 4 of them a few years back. No case, or handles, but I built my own handles at that price! Two of them are Hilmann brand and green, the other two are yellow, but the same exact chain roller style. I'll have to see what the capacity is on them.

An old boy is paring down his shop tooling… I didn’t jump on his Starrett stuff and maybe I should have? What does the tool hoarders say?

I did purchase these USA made C Clamps for $20 branded Brink & Cotton

I woulda passed on that combo square too. They do go for almost $400 new, but I have a couple that I got with boxes or other lots of tools and have never used them enough to justify paying real money for them. You can probably pick one up on ebay cheaper than that.

It's also not the kind of tool you need hurr durr, 'murican made like the good old days <boomer screeching> level accuracy from. It's a step above a speed square.

I do like the rolled edges on that. Although it could cause some issues with clamping or such, it would be nicer to stand up against to work on things.

It’s just a weird color. Figured it was medicinally induced choice :flipoff2:

I've read those things can cut straight through 6" solid round bar if tuned up right. There's a large amount of mods to do to them to make the perform though.

I've long pondered buying one on my random hf trips over the years.

Once you get it dialed, it seems to work. The it randomly undials its self. In for mods and tricks

Gonna start with un-****ing the tins, looks like it flipped over backward at some point and smooshed the back of the motor and the belt cover. Lots of missing hardware too like the deal that hits the switch to turn it off once the cut is done and it sure seems like its missing the parts that let you set it up vertical. It cuts like hammered dog **** right now, came with some blades so I'm gonna try that first.

biggest problem the one I was given has is that the hinge doesn't have enough spacers in it, so it'll move back and forth 1/2" or so, slid in one direction it binds between the two castings on the way down
and the start cap (or switch or winding) is dead so it needs a little bump to get going

but other than that it's a pretty nice little saw for something you can pick up and put in the back of a car one-man

There's a huge following on those saws and just about every home/hobby garage forum has a thread about modding and improving them. With a little work they can apparently be made very accurate.

I have a few kicking around that I bought at auctions for no more than $20 a piece. Still want to turn one into a dedicated vertical band saw with a decent sized table for cutting small brackets and whatnot.

Neat, looks a lot like a prentiss that I've got squirrelled away.

wonder if it's one of those deals like the 'champion blower and forge' brand tools where they (oswego) just got someone else (prentiss) to fill in the gaps in their product line

I paid 80 bucks for it. I may have over paid for three cutting torches, hoses and regulators but as a lot I did OK.

No ****, people have lost their minds over pricing vises!
I just turned down a $50 vise because I have two already. It was a nice RAE 5”

Then like a dumbass I bought more vintage hammers #hoarder

Yeah, I wish I had picked up a couple vises and anvils years ago - back when I thought they were overpriced. :shaking:

The "collectors" have driven the prices way out of a usable range.
To an extent, but also look at what a decent quality new vise costs.

And 8" Wilton tradesman is over $1k and an 8" Bullet is upwards of $3.5k. And now most of Wilton's **** is made in Taiwan or China, so dropping a few hundred bucks on some old cast or forged iron still kinda makes more sense than most of the new **** out there.

Drove this hot steaming pile of sprayer home about 50 miles... Pivot pin is completely ****ed up, but I'll get er squared around. Air bag suspension needs some work too, but came with a new pin and a couple of bags. $6500. Runs great. Should make spraying a bit more enjoyable!

You stealing the portals on this for a buggy? What sorta gear ratio would this beast have?

I didn’t say I don’t have 5 kick ass old school workhorses :smokin:
My favorite being this Reed 406! I paid $350 for it.
