Smash2.0 K5 resurrection

I wanted to do something different than the same old plating to the frame.

Do you have some spots that will let the schmoo run out of the frame?
It looks super trick, but it'd suck to get it all packed with mud and then rust out.
Yes, mud is not my favorite thing but I’m planning on the clean outs.

took some doors and made step through ones for when it’s topless. I will build a shoulder bar into the cage that will swing up towards the windshield frame with a double locking VSS compliant latch. They still use the hinges and door latch so I switch out for full ones in the winter and they will have stash boxes built in with locking doors

Built this bumper for my girlfriend’s truck 22 years ago and took it off when she sold it. It was sitting in my backyard all this time waiting to be rebuilt into a rock crawling bumper. The Dr.Smash cut into it is a third brake light. I put some pics of the mounting in the next post.

10 bolts 5 a side hold it to the frame. 2 of the bolts are 1” cause of the big ole hole in the end of blazer frames was right there. The shackles look like they will hit those ramps but they won’t. The ramps are for those times your in a hole and need to back up but the shackles get hung up and it bends the spring, that 3/4” round stock.

Love the work. As you mentioned, I am really considering going to leaves on a next build.

With so much cut out of the doors, why run any at all, when topless? To protect the jams/latches?

Just don’t like the look of no doors at all. Old scouts and bronco used to have aftermarket door pieces like these and I always liked the look.

Built a Magnum 205 for the S2.0. This is the first one I’ve done and I feel it’s way stronger than a 4speed Atlas is I allready had a 90mm bearing case but it was round pattern so I had to drill it racetrack pattern. While it was apart I beburred the case inside and out, drilled and tapped the plug hole for pipe thread. I did put a temp gauge sender into the Magnum case and I’m going to use a Grarworx pump and put a cooler on it. 3/4 of a quart of lube doesn’t seem to be enough in my opinion. I’m using a J&B fab cable shifter with modded rails and adjustable detents. I also upgraded to front output to 32 spline with flanges.

Killer build, really like how it’s coming along! What’s the total length of the 205 with the magnum on the front?

May have missed it , but what size tubing are you using for mounting the steering box? I need to redo the box mounting on my square when it gets the frame boxed/beefed. Since the bolts are 7/16" i was planning on drilling solid 1" bar in a lathe to make the sleeves fit nice to the bolts.

If there is an off the shelf tubing that works well then that is less work. Best I could find is 1x.250" DOM , .500 ID which is gonna be loose with 7/16 hardware.

I used 1” round solid and drilled it 7/16 on the lathe. The tube I used for the frame horns is 5”x2”x.188

Mind snagging a picture of gear oil pump and cooler you’re going to use for the Magnum/205?

I used a Turbowerx ExaPump mini, a cooler and fan from Amazon. This system also had a Derale temp switch to turn it on at 180degrees 160 off. I built this system for a M715 Jeep running a Northwest Fabs Black Box and an NP205. Same deal 3/4 of a quart of fluid and if you drive highway speeds the planetary will cook the fluid and burn up. That system held about 1.8 quarts circulated.

Very cool setup on the cooler. I want to do something similar. How to you fill the system and know when it’s full? Is there a reservoir with a vent or a sealed system?
