EDIT - I stole Wisconsinite 's thread (well, he let me have it)

Another build that just popped up in Irateville, and I am pulling tricks out of my head, from other builds, etc.

This is going to be an Aztec body, Honda 500hp rear engine, Ariel active suspension on Corvette A arms, Corvette hubs, spindles and brakes, with Ariel traction control.

This is in parts collection mode, while we work on and finish off other projects.

... but the thread originally posted by Wisconsinite:
Hypothetically, say a person had a chance to buy a wrecked Ariel Atom 4 (2019 365hp turbo Honda K24 6 speed manual). All the parts are there, but the front of the chassis is gone. The rear engine cradle and suspension points are intact, with all the factory suspension components in useable condition. How hard would it be to build the front chassis/suspension and have it not handle like dog ****? Mostly concerned with how TF do I get some decent suspension geometry?

This is the project in question. It was crashed in 2020 and they decided tp cut up the chassis and make a new one, they never got around to making a new one, and the project is up for sale at a very tempting price. I have also thought about parting it out too.

I would like to get the engine area scanned and brought into solidworks. I need some inspiration on a tube chassis streetish car. If you have any ideas, post em up.

weld the front of a superbeetle on there
I doubt that would handle very well. But I could look into it.

This is a stupid idea to even consider, and parting it out would probably be the smart thing to do, but inteligence ins't my strong suite.

oh wait it is a road race car
you don't need suspension
suspension is bad for handling

weld a straight axle directly to whatever poop pipe frame horns you scab on there

Duh, I can't believe I didn't think of that. I bet I could scab the steering off my old hay wagon!

Super beetles are the same design as a 5.0 mustang. McPherson strut.

I don't have much of the geometry details in the build thread, not that it would be that similar.

I used this to figure out most of it. vsusp.com

Convert that to front engine with a rear caster and cutting brakes, become a super brain learning to drive it. Or die trying

Here is your easy button. There are years of R&D in these front clips and you would be hard pressed to come up with something as good or better on your first attempt.

Could you buy a front cut off a bmw and graft that in? Or miata or mustang or whatever semi decent handing rwd car matches up the width

aww **** I though theywere the ones with the two arms going forward with torsion **** going on but that might be an isetta

get a frontcut from a sxs and make it 4wd with little tiny components that weigh nothing but also break all the time

He would have a problem packaging the front struts doing something like that.

Admittedly, I never crawled under my old 335 to really inspect, but I'm assuming it had upper and lower control arms, and the struts would be too stiff for a rear engine car, so make hoops and appropriate coil overs?

I guess he needs to tell us what he wants the finished car to look like and do, street race? Offroad? Daily driver?

70s mini truck with beer cooler under the hood?:smokin:

Howe, Port City, Troyer, Lefthander, Coleman and a bunch of other companies in the circle track/road race chassis business make what OP is looking for and all the components to assemble it.

That’s the beam style. It what everyone thinks of when they hear beetle.
