This will be my second build thread. The first was a Ftoy on the other site.
TUBBY is registered as a 1975 Toyota FJ40. Chevy drivetrain D300 40's. The objective of this build will be a jack of all trades master of none (kind like myself)
I picked up this FJ40 in 2020 with the intentions of a mild build using FJ60 axles 37's low ride height on leafs, street legal with doors, top, and heater. I got the suspension and axles mostly done then decided to go 1 ton, 4/3link 40's ect. So I sold all that off and bought some coil overs and link brakets. I messed around trying to get all that to work with a chopped up bent Stock 40 frame. After never really being happy with how it was turning out I finally got tired of trying to work off of a chassis that was too narrow, tapered and out of square I decided to buy a subframe and build from the ground up.
Im hoping a build thread and some constructive criticism will help me stay motivated.
Ive already got a pretty good start on TUBBY, I'll try and post pics in sequence.

Who's subframe you starting with? And jealous, I looked for a FJ40 tub for my build but couldn't find anything that wasn't completely rotted out

Goat built 4 link subframe, skid, engine crossmember and skid.
Ive been following your build its looking good. I'm about as far on mine as you are with yours.
Yeah, this tub is far from perfect but pretty solid and no smog so that's a plus.

ON your dana 300, Stock front? Why did you pick Novak for the rear output over say JB or AA? i am in the market to do this myself

rock on. cant go wrong with the sub frame for sure...
what lead to do trailing arms? i only ask because i am on the fence.

love 40 builds. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

Stock front output. I went with the Novak because I believe it was / is the shortest available. I was trying to keep the drivetrain as short as possible before changing direction on my build. The subframe has given me more room to play with the driveline length.

Trailing arms. Because I wanna go fast!!! and slow.:grinpimp: My reasoning is Travel, shock mounting, stronger rear links, probably going to mount the sway bar to the front shock mounting holes and forward of the rear axle. I didn't want to build shock mounts off of the top or hanging off the rear of the truss. It'll be easier to mount bumps to land on the truss without shocks in the way. I went with TMR trailing arm because the chassis side of arms came with the 2.625 width option.

Chopped down my welding bench to 24" tall to get a semi square and flat surface to work off of. I added casters and leveling bolts, its high enough for my engine hoist to roll under.

I'm pretty sure the clearance between the t case and skid will be a problem. I can clock it flat but will need a thicker trans to t case adapter to get the mid ship shaft around the pan. Also not sure if I'm going to stick with the th350 or go th400 maybe a 4l80e.
Think the t case mount will hold up?
