How badly do you hate it, and why?

I don’t hate it, but I’ve never had a boner for lever guns, traditional or otherwise. Probably designed to be used for “home defense” in some communist shit hole or a state where you can’t own a proper weapon.

If it’s available in reasonable calibers it might not make a bad woods/ranch/knock around gun.

Looks like it’s just .45-70, good choice for a woods gun but it rather have .44 magnum for a self defense crossover load. More capacity and faster follow up shots.

    Cool option here: https://www.marlinfirearms.com/lever...model-1894-sbl

I have one in .45-70, seems to be decent. Fun to shoot. Still waiting for the can to show up. Hornady leverlution ammo has a good kick to it.

Not mad at it. Probably will get one to go with my other lever guns at some point, but it’s not super high on the list.

There is pre-order for it in .44 Mag being offered, and it's unclear to me but I think they intend to offer it in a half dozen or so calibers at some point. I'm not sure why, they've made it for a while in 45-70, but maybe that was just the test run to see if there was a market for it and they're now adding to it? The .44 Mag would get you a couple more rounds in the tube and about 75% less shoulder hamburgering potential.

IMHO the 1892 action is superior if you're going to go with a handgun round.

I'm curious how decent it would be to shoot the 45-70 with a decent brake on it.

I've shot a couple different factory loads out of mine.

Factory 300 grn. RNFP with a charge light enough for older guns isn't too bad and fairly inexpensive (around a $1.00 each/bulk).

Hornady leverlution 325 grn. flex point boots quite a bit more and is around $2.00 each.

I have some Hornady 410 grn. sub x rounds. I haven't shot these yet, waiting on suppressor.

They are very short rifles. They will work well in a tree stand or ground blind. Almost exactly as long as a 16" AR with collapsible stock completely collapsed.

I haven't put it on paper yet. Zeroed at 25 yds. blew up a few logs around camp and shot some boulders out around 250 yds. offhand.

I'm a lever gun fan in general; own a Model 94 30-30, Govt. 45-70 and a .357 and always looking for more. I also like black guns - I had to go back to PBB and search, but in October of 2012 posted when this was released: https://www.guns.com/news/review/gun...on-30-30-video - it's a Mossberg 464 30-30 that was released at the height of zombie/tacticool.

I don't love or hate the Marlin 1895, but can't see myself buying one.

I hate Mossberg safety's. That one will require blood, more than likely. If you hunt wet conditions oil the shit out of it.
