Bikes are hard to drag race. Way to easy to screw up, especially at the launch. I did a few “test and tune” nights at Houston raceway park, way back in the day and had to take it easy on the start, just so I wouldn’t loop it. Good runs though. :smokin:

Thanks, a bunch of drama went down at the track that delayed everything about two hours so I only got the three passes. I'm shocked how much better the bike hooks on the rubber, I expected it to be like grease so I definitely need more practice launching.

The damn shifting is a pain in the ass. I know they design it to last a million miles but it really sucks to shift at high RPM. I'll adjust my shifter down further next time to see if it helps.

GP shift is much better. :smokin: I thought I would hate it when I started doing track days, but found it a lot easier to shift.
Unfortunately don't have room to flip the linkage on the Wing or I'd seriously consider it, I'm always dragging toes downshifting while leaning.

Smoked the clutch in the YZ at the most local race the series I'm following gets to me :mad3: It had been fine prior but halfway through the 1st lap it started slipping and just got worse the longer I went on.

I was able to get 3 laps in (AA guys did 5, top 30B did 4) but annoyingly got passed for 8th in class, which would have been my best finish in this series, on the last hill as I wasn't watching far enough ahead and committed to the steep line instead of the sweeping around the outside/less steep/longer option and didn't make it up due to said clutch slippage. ****. So frustrating.

Shopping for clutches now. Looks like I can get an oem Yamaha kit with steels, frictions, and springs for a little over a hundo.

What brand clutch?

I had a barnett in my 300. Noisy..omg was it loud. Get it slipping hard and it would chirp and squeal  like the guys you were passing on a hill could hear it:lmao:

Ktm dealer was always pushing the moose stuff.

I stuck a hinson in and never looked back.

I think these were off a tusk clutch pack. I'm not nice to a clutch. But never seen the tabs peen over like that

The bike had a Rekluse in it with their clutch bits but I took that out as soon as I got home and put the frictions/steels that were in a zip lock baggie in a parts box back in. So no idea what they were

Anyone have a suggestion for safe cylinder head temp on a air-cooled 2 stroke 80?

I need to get my jetting game dialed in and a cylinder head temp gauge seems like a good idea to have to warn me of impending doom.

I hear 330* F is a good starting point.

Forgot I installed the shinko front on Friday before the races. First commute this morning, the profile is definitely flatter. Went into the first right hander at my normal speed and ended up touching down an engine guard. Gonna have to replace my RH footpeg again, I ground it down bad this morning.

Got a 3 day weekend with no plans, debating on trying to do a maximum mileage run and see how far I can get in a 12 hour day. Going to try to hit all the states bordering Missouri because why not. Routed out 700 miles to hit IL, IA, NE and KS all in the same day.

Installed foot pegs set number 3. The RH side got leaned on pretty hard.

Next day I think I can head straight down to TN and KY, then the third day hit AR and OK. Should end up being 6-700 miles per day, which is a lot but should be manageable.

In preparation for new clutch kit showing up, decided to pull the old one today.

Spec is 2.70-2.90, min 2.6 on the frictions and 1.5 on the steels.

So that all checks out in spec. Rut roh. Note the shiny ring on the inside of the last friction

Inner hub is smoked

FML. Now I get to order those also and hope they arrive by Saturday for a race on Sunday.

Just double up a steel on the bottom?

Well it's already ****ed so maybe I'll chuck it in the lathe and skim it off flat so I can measure it out to see if that could work.

Not sure there is enough meat in it to get another 1.50mm of steel in there though.

Pulled the hub and that won't work. The pockets the steels engage in bottom out about 2mm before the surface that is worn so you have to have a friction in there.

Also not a lot of extra material to turn it off smooth.

There just isn't enough tolerance to cram in an extra anything in the pack without modifying a bunch of other parts which isn't worth it in the end.

New OEM parts are about $160. Fancy GYTR billet parts are about $400.

Rode the “Collarbone” up north Saturday.
We had 21 riders (and maybe 25 machines?….a few spare)
No human injured, but one 250r locked up.

Yep, it was floating around on FBMP here in Michgan in the last few months. He got it for $2k and then put another $1500 into it I think I heard him say.
Nearly all of those machines were picked up here and there across Michgan in the last couple months. My buddy sorta dreamed I the idea and then set to work buying up machines and recruiting friends and family to buy them and ride them. I have had mine a few years now, it’s the crappiest one of the bunch. But it ran just find the whole time.
The busted headlight earned me a ticket though….

It was a nice morning, and I hopped on the husky to run to the gas station a mile down the road, and didn't wear a helmet. I never really ride without a helmet, but I did this time as it was nice and a slow ride to my destination. My bike sounded funny, like it had an exhaust leak....

A cop gave a gaggle of 3 wheelers a ticket for a headlight? :rainbow:
