So the parent company/majority shareholder of KTM, husky, and gas gas has announced plans to do a "temporary" 2 month layoff of 1000 employees for january/February to get a grip on excess inventory and do an "operational restructure." The number they're tossing around is making up for "triple digit million" bridge financing.

Whaddya think? Kill off husky ala husqvarna? Ditch both white and red lines and go all orange?

They own WP suspension too, do they keep that rolling for in house components?

What happens?

I can't see sherco, TM, or a Japanese or god forbid Chinese, brand filling in the gap in the offroad market.

They'll axe Husqy. Theres really no reason to have KTM and Husqy competing against each other.

GG will live for the albeit small (in the US) trials market. I'd bet they axe the GG bikes that are competing with KTM and Husqy as well.

WP will live on.

I never understood why they reintroduced Husqvarna. All they were doing is competing with themselves with that deal and same with the Gas Gas woods and MX bikes. Doesn't seem like a smart move no matter how you slice it.

Ask GM how that worked out for them over the years.....

I think you'll see the GasGas enduro and MX stuff go away, it's just not something that needs to be around. Bringing the Husqvarna name back was smart marketing at a time when you could have multiple brands under one umbrella selling at the top end of the market price wise. Now with the economy the way it is, it's too much just like GM in the early 2000's.

Honestly I'm ok with them trimming the fat a bit. I know it's just my personal opinion, but I as a rider have no use for the 1" lower seat height on the huskies, and even the magazine guys were pointing out that the selling point of the gas gas being a cheaper stripper model alternative went out the window like 1 year after introduction when they raised the price with the new generation bikes. It's whatever. Orange was always the best choice out of the 3 anyway :flipoff2:

I literally just bought a husky, a 2019. So let's hope it isn't killed off yet. I think there are enough overlapping parts with the KTM to make it somewhat easy to get parts. It isn't like I am likely riding it for 20 years or anything.

Import laws. They're only allowed to import a certain number of 2t bikes.

They have been maxed out for all 3 brands in the 300 2t.

If they kill anything it'll be the husky because they license it from Husqvarna Sweden. They said they bought it, but now they're saying they actually only bought the rights to license it.

They need to swap out Husaberg for Husqvarna if they actually 100% own it. They only bought the husky name for brand recognition. Not many of us had old Huskys though. (I have a 96 360 and 19 300).

Gas gas doesn't sell many 4t. They're 300s still fly off the shelves because they're the cheapest brand new 300 2t.

If they offer KTM in white, and every model with or without linkage, I won't care.

I do care about linkage. It's not about the 1" of seat height. It's about the way it handles a hit. PDS just doesn't work for some things. It's great for slow tight woods. It sucks to try and do 1st gear trees into 6th gear transfer sections and not bottom it constantly.

They do need to figure out grease zerks. My 96 still has stock needle bearings because there's 6 zerks to keep the linkage lubed.

I care about linkage too, that's why my 350 has one even though it's kinda meant to be my enduro/woodsy build. (because I have a tendency to need to use my "spare bike" in the big desert whoops on occasion, and also hate hurting my ankles and wrists with bottom outs on transfer sections)

Pretty sure the same models that have lindages in KTM also have them in the husky variants. PDS belongs on "XC-W" and "EXC" bikes and nothing else. Agree with everything you said about it.

No zerks is weight reduction, bro :flipoff2:

I wonder what it'd take to just....drill and tap for some zerks?

So they've reportedly offered to pay 30% of their debts, which are claimed as high as $2.9 BILLION USD.

Article floats 3 potential investors to save them, one of which is Pierer mobility, which already owns them, and from what I'd read, were he ones who drove KTM into this hole anyway. The other are Bajaj, and CF Moto. Or if you prefer, India and China.

CF moto sells a lot of quads around here and I've heard surprisingly few complaints. Both companies are already in manufacturing partnerships with KTM too.

On the thread subject, couldn't help but notice that there was only one Husky on the field at A1 and it appears to be Malcolm Stewart. No huskies at all anywhere else.

Trim the fat.

You want an orange or a white KTM?
You want a base model or a pimped out 6days?

Import laws. They have to meet different emissions standards if they surpass a certain number of units.

They straight up said they bought gas gas just so they could import more 300 2t.
