Taking on more of my own maintenance, I'm looking to pick one up. I will mainly be riveting 520/525 chains, but would like to have the capability to do a 530.

Is it worth spending a premium to get a Motion Pro? Is there something better?

How bad will I hate myself if I buy one of the cheapies on ebay/amazon? Obviously, I don't want to be borking up $150 chains or die.

What do you use? and how has it held up over time? Thanks!

I have a motion pro breaker that works great, and use quick links, because dirtbikes.
Gotcha, thank you. I'm leaning that direction.

I figured more than a few are using quick links and the question might be N/A for them :grinpimp:

I got a Motion Pro PBR on the way, I'll at least take that variable out of the equation. I had posted this with my next chain swap in mind for the SV, it has almost 25k mi on the chain and sprockets it's currently on. They owe me nothing at this point and I have a new set ready to go on.

After doing a chain lube on the Tracer 900, I found this (see below). This chain only has about 10k on it, and a shop installed it for me. About 500mi in, I noticed the O-rings bulged and thought, over pressed perhaps. I'm fairly positive the rivet wasn't split to this extent 400mi ago, and it almost appears the side plate is cracked too - although there are some similar "tool marks" /physical damage near the edge in the same orientation.

Am I safe to try just riveting on a new master link and save the chain?

I really didn't want to do it on this bike first. Although it probably won't be worse than the current condition.
