I went on a 16 hour drive to Windrock offroad park in Tennessee and on the way there, i stopped at a junkyard in Mississippi to pick up a very hard to find part. A cast iron front diff from a 2nd gen S10 with a manual transmission. This one has 3:42 gears which matches my current rear axle. I plan on swapping in a 8.5" 10-bolt from a Zr2 that has 3.73 gears, so while i have this out, i will regear it. Probably, maybe. I still need to find a Bravada or Astro van AWD front diff to rob the one piece front shaft from.

You can get the one piece shaft relatively cheap or even special order one pretty cheap too. I forget what I paid for the one in the front of my 2000 S10 but it wasn't a huge spend($170???)
